Albuquerque's Sunport isn't built for transatlantic ambitions, which is exactly why the routing puzzle matters so much here: there is no nonstop option, and business class from Albuquerque to Valencia essentially comes down to two viable strategies — connecting through Dallas or Chicago on American Airlines metal, or routing via London on British Airways, with Iberia picking up the final leg into Valencia (or nearby Madrid, with a short onward hop or high-speed rail substitute). American's transcontinental connections put you into their Flagship Suite on select widebody segments if you're routed through DFW onto a European gateway, while British Airways' Club Suite — with its closing door and reverse-herringbone layout on 777s and A350s — remains the most consistently premium hard product across this itinerary. Iberia, meanwhile, flies A330s and A350s with a lie-flat business product on the Madrid-Valencia adjacent network, useful if your connection funnels through MAD rather than LHR.
Having routed this corridor more times than I'd like to admit, my strong preference is the BA-Iberia combination through London Heathrow, landing at T5, which offers a far shorter, more organized connection than threading through a hub like Chicago during peak transatlantic congestion in summer. One insider trick: book the Iberia domestic-style hop from Madrid to Valencia as a separate short connection with at least two hours of buffer — Iberia's MAD hub can be surprisingly slow for bag transfers even in business class, and missing that last regional leg is a common and avoidable headache.
Seasonality here rewards patience. April, May, September, and October consistently produce the strongest business class availability and value on this ABQ–VLC corridor, largely because Spain's shoulder-season tourism dip loosens premium cabin inventory just enough for award and paid upgrades alike. Given how thin the direct competition is on this route, fares swing meaningfully month to month — which is reason enough to set up automated fare tracking rather than checking manually and hoping for the best.
