The 1-2-1 lie-flat configuration is competitive, and the cabin feels genuinely refined rather than corporate. The real differentiator is the catering — regional Italian ingredients, a legitimately thoughtful antipasto service, and a wine list that reflects serious curatorial effort. ITA also connects seamlessly into Rome Fiumicino's Terminal 1 premium infrastructure, making onward connections to Southern Italy or the Mediterranean islands notably smoother. The tradeoff is a less mature loyalty ecosystem and a slightly thinner soft product outside of dining.

For suite seekers who prioritize hardware and lounge access, Delta on the A350 is the stronger choice. For travelers who consider the meal an event rather than an obligation — the food-focused traveler flying into Italian culture before they've even landed — ITA is the more authentic experience. On the practical side, ITA tends to release competitive business class fares in the January through March window and again in October, when leisure demand softens; Delta's best availability often surfaces in February with advance planning of three to four months. The insider move here is booking ITA on a Wednesday or Thursday departure, when load factors typically ease and upgrade inventory occasionally opens. Given how quickly fare gaps between these two carriers shift — sometimes dramatically within a single week — setting automated price alerts on this route is the single most effective way to catch the right product at the right moment.
